New Artwork of the Day: Intimate Portrait

More delights from the Artist Rising garden, this time an up close and personal shot of a gladiola, courtesy of Auralee Dallas.

Auralee’s photograph Intimate Portrait is a different kind of portrait for this professional photographer. Based in Northern California, just a few miles outside of Lodi, Auralee captures her clients at some of the happiest moments of their lives: childhood, motherhood and teens at the cusp of adulthood. The photos in her Artist Rising gallery to show off her other artistic explorations in landscape and still life photography, all of them great examples of this pro photographer’s keen eye for color and composition.

New Artwork of the Day: Wisteria

Ah, Spring, glorious Spring. What makes one of the most anticipated seasons? Why, flowers, of course. “Flowers” is one of the most popular search keywords on our site and on Sistino so I thought I’d spotlight some of the new blooms that have appeared in our galleries.

Amy Hautman’s watercolor painting, Wisteria shows off her mastery of this tricky medium. The colors are fresh and delicate, and the composition captures the light and spirit of these beautiful seasonal blossoms. Visit her Artist Rising gallery to see more picks from her garden, as well as her lovely landscapes and whimsical animal and bird portraits.

New Artwork of the Day: Rains

Our last entry in our “blue” series this week is Rains by Brett Buzdygon. I lived in the Northwest for a few years, and somehow this modern, stylish piece reminded me of those misty, drizzly days in Seattle.

Brett is studying Art History at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania, and he cites Stanley Donwood and Jackson Pollock as major influences in his painting style. Take a peek at his Artist Rising gallery and check out this young artist on the rise.

New Artwork of the Day: Bay Blue

Continuing on our “blue” theme this week, our tour takes us to sunny Florida – Pine Island to be exact.

With her photograph Bay Blue, Florene Welebny frames a sunny beach scene with shady palm trees, and offers a vision of tropical relaxation. A former NYC interior decorator, Florene now lives and creates in South Florida, and captures natural and abstract scenes through her lens. Visit her Artist Rising gallery for a splash of tropical color, no matter where you are.

New Artwork of the Day: Blue Blizzard

As I was browsing through the galleries looking for new artists and artworks to feature this week, I noticed that several of my picks were blue. So I thought, why not make that this week’s theme?

So my pick for Blue Tuesday is Paul Cunha’s digital image Blue Blizzard. Paul’s a relatively new addition to Artist Rising, having just joined us last month. A graphic designer based in Massachusetts, Paul cites a lifelong fascination with robots, from old sci-fi flicks to the Transformers as the inspiration for this series. Visit his Artist Rising gallery and see what happens when robots go fishing, feel like dancing, get married and have kids.

New Artwork of the Day: Amanda

So far, we’ve featured paintings, digital artworks and photographs in the Artwork of the Day space, so now it’s time to spread some love to the drawings on our site.

This piece comes to us from a new Artist Rising member, Michael Jarvis. Michael’s portrait of Amanda captures a somber, reflective mood suitable for a misty Portland afternoon. Drop by his home on Artist Rising and check out the other offerings from this scientist-by-training and artist-at-heart.

New Artwork of the Day: Fancy Flight

Wednesday is a perfect day for daydreaming.

Mary Rucker’s digital image Fancy Flight takes me far, far away from cubicle land, if only for a moment.

A multi-talented and multimedia artist based in Las Vegas, Nevada, Mary also paints murals and has even had her own weekly TV show. Meet this fascinating artist and see more of her work at her Artist Rising gallery.

New Artwork of the Day: Vine-Ripe Tomatoes

One of the nicest things about living in the Bay Area is shopping for fresh produce at neighborhood farmers’ markets.

It’s not tomato season yet, but this acrylic painting by Nancy McCrone made me long for those warmer days ahead when those juicy beauties will be at their peak of flavor.

Based in Southern Pennsylvania, Nancy creates landscapes and portraits in pastels and acrylic. Visit her Artist Rising gallery to see more.

New Artwork of the Day: The Beauty of Snow

Spring is here, but looks like the snow just doesn’t quite want to go away on the East Coast yet. Even the Easter Bunny had to wear an extra layer yesterday. With this on my mind, this photograph by Jeffrey Buckner caught my eye.

A former carpenter-turned-photographer based in Colorado (where they *know* all about snow), Jeffrey is also a new addition to Artist Rising. Drop by his gallery and welcome him aboard!
