As they used to say in Monty Python, “and now for something completely different.” Our tour makes a stop on the sunny shores of Tiki Planet as seen by Mike Cressy.

New Artwork of the Day: Blooming Cactus

The road to becoming a full-time artist is often not a straight point-A-to-point-B journey. Just ask Jennifer Lommers. This Pacific Northwest artist took a detour down the information technology career path before finding her way back to her first love, creating art.

Jennifer’s painting Blooming Cactus offers a bright, energetic take on this week’s “flower” theme. Her bold paint strokes and effervescent composition transform this painting into something much more visually compelling than just a simple picture of a cactus. Visit her Artist Rising gallery for more abstracts, landscapes and animal images from this artist’s atelier.

New Artwork of the Day: Margarita

Today, we bring you a whimsical take on the flower theme, courtesy of Angie Brenner.

Margarita is just one piece in her series of “striped sock fairies,” and hopefully just the first of many artworks to come from this new Artist Rising member. Based in Bad Boll in Southern Germany, Angie has exhibited her artwork in galleries in Munich and Stuttgart, and you can now enjoy her work in her Artist Rising gallery.

New Artwork of the Day: Wisteria

Ah, Spring, glorious Spring. What makes one of the most anticipated seasons? Why, flowers, of course. “Flowers” is one of the most popular search keywords on our site and on Sistino so I thought I’d spotlight some of the new blooms that have appeared in our galleries.

Amy Hautman’s watercolor painting, Wisteria shows off her mastery of this tricky medium. The colors are fresh and delicate, and the composition captures the light and spirit of these beautiful seasonal blossoms. Visit her Artist Rising gallery to see more picks from her garden, as well as her lovely landscapes and whimsical animal and bird portraits.

New Artwork of the Day: Rains

Our last entry in our “blue” series this week is Rains by Brett Buzdygon. I lived in the Northwest for a few years, and somehow this modern, stylish piece reminded me of those misty, drizzly days in Seattle.

Brett is studying Art History at Lebanon Valley College in Pennsylvania, and he cites Stanley Donwood and Jackson Pollock as major influences in his painting style. Take a peek at his Artist Rising gallery and check out this young artist on the rise.
